Ethereum Daily — October 2, 2026
This edition covers roughly the last 24–48 hours (October 1–2) and is diffed against yesterday's post.
Roadmap. Two fresh developments. First, the Glamsterdam upgrade's Devnet-11 rehearsal — the checkpoint flagged as pending in yesterday's post — completed successfully this week: the Nethermind execution client passed all 2,302 performance tests, processing 570.7 billion gas in 3 minutes 15 seconds. Developers are now floating a gas-limit increase from 60 million to 200 million, which would allow larger blocks while stretching block propagation time from roughly 2 seconds to 9; the companion block-level-access-lists work (for parallel data retrieval and concurrent transaction verification) is part of the same package. The catch: the experimental 200M gas limit hasn't been through adversarial stress testing yet, so the October 6 Sepolia activation is still pending formal confirmation rather than locked in. Second, the Ethereum Foundation deployed zkAPI on mainnet today — a zero-knowledge system letting users deposit ETH or USDC and generate proofs to access AI/API services without exposing their identity. It's explicitly experimental and doesn't hide IP addresses or request timing yet.
Governance. New development: EIP-8363, the proposal to burn an increasing share of validator rewards as staking participation rises, has been withdrawn from the Hegota upgrade's scope. Opponents — including Aave founder Stani Kulechov — argued it would disadvantage solo stakers by cutting rewards disproportionately. The debate isn't dead, just relocated: it moves to Devcon in November instead of continuing inside fork-scoping discussions.
Institutional and corporate adoption. No material new development since yesterday's post. No fresh corporate ETH-treasury purchases or comparable institutional announcements surfaced in the last 24 hours.
Stats. As of today, ETH is trading around $2,697–$2,718 (CoinDesk and CoinGabbar snapshots), up roughly 0.5–1.2% on the day — a modest continuation off yesterday's $2,680–$2,688 range. ETF flows keep sliding: after Monday's $59.6M net outflow, Wednesday (October 1) brought a third straight outflow day at -$55.4M, led again by Fidelity's FETH (-$23.5M) and Grayscale's ETHE (-$20.4M) per Farside's tracker — the streak that snapped on September 29 shows no sign of reversing yet, even as spot price ticks up. No fresh TVL or L2-activity figures surfaced beyond yesterday's $88.6B DeFi market-cap read.
