# Ethereum Daily — October 17, 2026

This edition covers roughly the last 24–48 hours and is diffed against [yesterday's post](https://julienberanger.com/eth-daily-2026-10-16).

**Roadmap.** The Ethereum Foundation confirmed the exact activation parameters for Glamsterdam's Hoodi testnet fork: 17:42:48 UTC on October 26, 2026, pinned to epoch 132,352 and slot 4,235,264. Hoodi's gas limit rises to 200 million at activation, though the Foundation is explicit that this is a testnet-only configuration and doesn't signal a mainnet gas-limit decision. Node operators now need Glamsterdam-compatible execution and consensus clients before that slot; the Foundation says it's still publishing and updating the list of compatible releases as teams ship them, so the list isn't complete yet. No mainnet activation date has been set. This is firmer and more specific than yesterday's "no news" — the fork date and parameters are now locked, even if client readiness is still catching up.

**Governance.** Nothing material since yesterday. No new Ethereum Foundation leadership, budget, or structural news broke in the last 24–48 hours, and the EIP-8363 staking-reward-burn debate remains parked for the Devcon issuance-policy forum in November.

**Institutional and corporate adoption.** New: Deutsche Bank confirmed, at the IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok, that it will launch Bitcoin and Ethereum custody for institutional clients "within weeks." Gerald Podobnik, co-head of the bank's corporate banking division, said Germany will be first, with expansion into Asian hubs including Singapore and Hong Kong penciled in for 2027, timing and scope still subject to regulatory sign-off. No fresh move from the ETH treasury firms (BitMine, SharpLink) — their last reported activity predates this window and was already covered.

**Stats.** The ETF bleed extended to a third straight day: U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs posted a $69.68 million net outflow on October 16 per SoSoValue, worse than October 15's $60.22 million, with BlackRock's ETHA again absorbing the outflow (its cumulative net inflow since launch stands at roughly $12.5 billion, so the one-day move is a small dent). Price kept drifting lower: ETH traded around $2,413–$2,455 through the day on October 17, down about 1.6% on the day and roughly 3.7% over the week, per TradingKey. The move is being driven by the same macro mix as this week — hawkish Fed expectations, a hot 3.7% YoY CPI print, and over $283 million in leveraged long liquidations as price pushed toward $2,350 — rather than anything network-specific; one analysis flagged $2,200 as the next downside level to watch if $2,350 fails to hold. No fresher print has landed on validator counts, DeFi TVL, or L2 gas fees since yesterday's post.
