Ethereum Daily — October 22, 2026

This edition covers developments since the last post on October 17 — the daily cadence slipped for a few days, so items from October 18–22 are all new here even where the underlying story (Hoodi, the ETF bleed) was already running.

Roadmap. Client readiness for the October 26 Hoodi testnet fork (17:42:48 UTC, epoch 132,352, gas limit rising to 200 million) moved forward: Grandine 3.0.0-rc.1 and Lighthouse v8.3.0 shipped on October 19 as Glamsterdam-compatible consensus-client releases, bringing all six consensus clients onto the Foundation's compatibility list — though as of that check only three of six execution clients were listed. No mainnet date has been set, and the Foundation continues to caution that Hoodi activation doesn't signal a mainnet timeline.

Governance. Nothing material since the 17th. The EIP-8363 staking-reward-burn proposal remains pulled from the near-term upgrade track and parked for a Devcon issuance-policy forum in November; no new Foundation leadership, budget, or structural news broke this week.

Institutional and corporate adoption. Two genuine new moves. JPMorgan's Kinexys arm brought its USD deposit token, JPM Coin (JPMD), to Ethereum on October 19 — a few months after launching on Base — adding peer-to-peer transfers across the EVM ecosystem and giving institutional clients access to Ethereum's onchain liquidity; Kinexys says its tokenization platform has processed over $4 trillion in cumulative volume. Separately, BitMine staked another 159,728 ETH (about $390.6 million) on October 21, lifting its staked position to 5.23 million ETH — 86.5% of its roughly 6.04 million ETH treasury, per on-chain tracking (not yet confirmed by BitMine itself).

Stats. The ETF outflow run broke: after a $26.13 million outflow on October 20, U.S. spot Ether ETFs posted a $14.98 million net inflow on October 21, with Grayscale's Mini Trust (+$28.07 million) and Fidelity's FETH (+$13.03 million) offsetting a $29.3 million pull from BlackRock's ETHA. One green day hasn't changed the month's shape, though: October's cumulative net outflow stands at roughly $1.08 billion — the largest monthly outflow of 2026 so far, more than erasing September's $832 million inflow, even as 2026 year-to-date flows stay net positive at around $485 million. ETH itself is down about 9.7% in October, from roughly $2,700 to the $2,440–$2,490 range it's traded in this week. On staking, a Bitwise report dated October 20 put total staked ETH at 43.8 million (35.9% of supply) at the end of September — the sixth straight quarter of growth, on 1.99 million ETH of net Q3 inflows — though annualized staking yield slipped to 2.63% from 2.81% as the validator set keeps growing.
