Ethereum Daily — November 6, 2026

This edition covers developments since the last post on November 3 — so items from November 4 through today.

Roadmap. The new wrinkle: at the Devcon 8 opening ceremony in Mumbai on November 3, Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake said the network is now aiming to finish its post-quantum (and post-AI) security transition by December 2028 — a year earlier than the Foundation's official December 2029 roadmap. He framed it as an aspiration rather than a commitment; the roadmap itself won't be formally revised until a reassessment in January 2027. The urgency case: roughly 72% of ETH supply sits in accounts whose public keys are already exposed on-chain, and Drake argues AI progress could threaten current signature schemes before quantum computers do — though the compressed timeline (three network upgrades in 24 months) has drawn skepticism, including from StarkWare's Eli Ben-Sasson. Separately, Glamsterdam's Hoodi testnet activation — postponed October 22 — still has no new date, and no mainnet date either; nothing has moved there since the 3rd.

Governance. The Devcon 8 roundtable on EIP-8363 ("Tapered Issuance Burn") took place as scheduled on November 4, with Ethereum consensus researchers and EIP coauthor Jérôme de Tychey in the room. It was explicitly framed as a discussion, not a vote, and no outcome or consensus has been reported from it. The proposal's own roadmap — set when it was pulled from the Hegotá upgrade on October 1 — calls for workshops after Devcon, a tentative January forum aimed at a "feasible draft," and a push for formal consideration at EthCC in April. One new data point worth flagging: with roughly 44.3 million ETH now actively staked, researchers calculate EIP-8363's burn formula would already cut day-one net validator rewards to about 74% of today's level, falling toward 37% over an 18-month transition — a reminder of why the debate hasn't cooled even while it's still discussion-only.

Institutional and corporate adoption. Nothing new since the 3rd — no fresh bank, fund, or corporate-treasury announcement surfaced in the past two days. If anything, the institutional posture right now reads as defensive: funds trimming crypto-adjacent equity exposure amid the broader sell-off (see Stats) rather than adding to it.

Stats. A sharp risk-off day on November 5 hit Ethereum along with the rest of the market: ETH fell about 8.2% to roughly $2,234 as a broad U.S. tech and AI-stock selloff — the Nasdaq's worst day since April 2025 — spilled into crypto, with Bitcoin down nearly 6% to about $75,900 and over $1 billion in crypto liquidations. ETH is trading around $2,230 as of today, so the drop has largely held rather than reversed. ETF flows whipsawed in the process: a seven-session outflow streak broke on November 4 with a $53 million net inflow, only for flows to flip straight back to a $99.97 million net outflow on November 5 — BlackRock's ETHA alone shed $75.2 million that day. DeFi TVL on Ethereum sits at roughly $37.15 billion, little changed (+0.8% over 24 hours).
